I recently had the pleasure of stepping aboard Queen Mary 2, the world-famous flagship of the Cunard Line. Known for her transatlantic elegance and timeless charm, she is the only ocean liner still in regular service between Southampton and New York – a ship built not just for cruising, but for crossing oceans in style.

Our visit began in a rather unique way – through the crew entrance, which gave us an interesting behind-the-scenes glimpse into life on board. Once on board, we were welcomed in the Queen’s Room, the largest ballroom at sea. Surrounded by plush décor and chandeliers, we enjoyed complimentary tea, coffee, juices, and pastries, setting the tone for a truly elegant day.

We were then taken on an in-depth tour of Queen Mary 2’s public spaces, showcasing her luxurious and diverse offerings. Highlights included:

• Mareel Wellness & Beauty, a modern spa and wellness centre

• The lively G32 Nightclub, perfect for evening entertainment

• Two grand theatres for West End-style performances and lectures

• The spectacular Britannia Restaurant, where we later enjoyed lunch

• The exclusive suite terrace, accessible only to Grill Suite guests

• The refined Queens Grill Restaurant, Cunard’s most luxurious dining experience

• Steakhouse at The Verandah, offering contemporary fine dining

• The authentic Golden Lion Pub, a nod to traditional British pubs

We also had the chance to explore a selection of staterooms, showcasing the wide range of accommodation options available on board. From Britannia Inside cabins and Obstructed Balcony staterooms to the elegant Queens Grill Suites, there truly is something to suit every traveler’s taste and budget.

Each cabin offered a blend of classic style and modern comfort – another testament to Cunard’s commitment to timeless luxury.

Lunch in the Britannia Restaurant

Midway through our tour, we sat down for a delicious three-course lunch in the Britannia Restaurant, one of the ship’s most iconic dining venues. The surroundings were as grand as the cuisine. I enjoyed:

• Starter: Chicken and leek terrine

• Main course: Herb-grilled chicken breast

• Dessert: A decadent chocolate marquise

The service was impeccable, and the meal offered a delightful taste of the culinary excellence Cunard is renowned for.

Champagne and Farewell

To conclude our visit, we gathered in the Champagne Bar for a chilled glass of Prosecco, reflecting on a truly memorable day. The atmosphere was refined and relaxed – the perfect finale to our time on board.

It was bittersweet to leave, but I felt incredibly privileged to have experienced the grace, sophistication, and legacy that Queen Mary 2 represents.
